7hz Saltnotes Zero 2
The 7Hz Saltnotes Zero 2 is the sequel to the much-lauded Zero in-ear monitor from the collaboration between 7Hz and Salnotes. Reputed for their remarkable performance against a budget-friendly price tag, the Zero 2 seeks to refine the formula with improved acoustics, build quality, and tuning. Here's a comprehensive review:
Design & Build Quality
The Zero 2 is both modern and attractive, with a more refined ergonomic shell compared to its predecessor. The resin body has a semi-custom shape that provides a comfortable fit, suitable for a wide range of ear sizes.
Material: The shell is durable and lightweight, made of resin, while the faceplate adds some class with either metallic or gradient design, depending on the colorway.
Comfort - They are not too tight nor very loose and hence do not result in considerable annoyance for prolonged wear. For the passive isolation of noise, it can block ambient noises from quiet conditions.
Cable: It uses a 2-pin detachable design so one may easily upgrade or replace. The cord is tangle resistant with no microphonics adding to the general users' satisfaction.
Sound Quality
Similar to the original Zero, the 7Hz Salnotes Zero 2 implements a single dynamic driver configuration. Tuning, however, is improved to make it a much more even and engaging sound to suit the tastes of the common listener.
Bass
Quantity: Slightly more than that of the original Zero. It's punchy with a decent amount of warm and it never gets overpowering.
Quality: Sub-bass extension is better, providing a tactile rumble that really enhances genres such as electronic, hip-hop, and pop. Mid-bass has a slight bump but remains clean, not bleeding into the midrange.
Midrange
Lower Mids: The lower mids are warm and natural, providing realistic timbre for male vocals and instruments such as guitars.
Upper Mids: The upper mids are forward but smooth, with a reduction in harshness compared to the original Zero. Female vocals and higher-pitched instruments are well-represented without sounding shrill.
Treble
Quantity: The treble is crisp and detailed but slightly rolled off in the upper regions to avoid sibilance or fatigue.
Quality: Microdetails are present, and cymbals sound natural without being overly sharp. The treble tuning is safe and non-fatiguing, making the Zero 2 suitable for extended listening sessions.
Soundstage & Imaging
Soundstage: The soundstage is moderately wide, giving a good sense of space. Not extremely wide but avoids feeling congested at all.
Imaging: Imaging is accurate; instruments and vocals are well-placed within the sound stage. This makes it perfect for gaming and critical listens.
